I was recently sent a box of Raw Crunch Bars to sample. In all honesty, I’m not much of a bar enthusiast—they all taste pretty much the same to me, so I kept my expectations modest. I was pleased to find that these bars are made of seeds and dried fruits that you can actually see. I’m crazy for seeds, and so these bars couldn’t have found a better audience.
One caveat—these contain raw honey, not a product used by strict vegans. I asked a company representative about this, and she explained that the honey used is, “locally hand harvested and our bee keeper does not smoke out the bees and is very passionate about their well-being. For this reason many vegans do buy our bars.” Still, I requested that they experiment with brown rice syrup, so that this product will appeal to the purest vegans as well.
The bars come in four varieties: Cranberry, Blueberry, Goji Berry, and Dark Chocolate. This is seriously good stuff—without the junky soy derivatives so prevalent in energy bars. The goji berry bar, for example, has the following ingredients in addition to the berries, all of which are organic: sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, cashews, flaxseeds, pecans, raw honey, macadamia nuts, and celtic sea salt. They offer a pleasant and distinctive crunch, befitting their name, and are quite tasty.
