Are you looking for some healthy vegan milk alternatives that can please your taste buds at the same time? Well, the market is flooded with dozens of non-dairy milk beverages and quite a few of them are worth trying. Sounds interesting? Read on below to learn more:
Why Vegan Milk is a Good Choice for You?
No matter whether you are a vegetarian or a non-vegetarian, picking non-dairy milk alternatives over the regular ones is always beneficial for you. Let us dig a bit deeper and find out why one should go for vegan milk choices:
- Being free of lactose, it is non-allergenic. So, if you are allergic to cow milk, going vegan will help you a lot.
- If you have lactose intolerance, the chances are big that you experience acid reflux, abdominal gas, bloating, etc. frequently. Dairy-free milk substitutes can eliminate these symptoms fast and easily.
- Acne and regular milk always go hand in hand. The risk becomes even greater in case of skimmed milk. But when you replace your dairy consumption with the vegan alternatives, you get rid of it.
- When the milk is produced from a cow non-organically, it gets contaminated by the antibiotics and hormones injected into the animal’s body. The unnatural production process of milk also causes mastitis to cows, which results into the presence of pus in milk. All these lead to hormonal imbalances and various other ailments in human beings. However, when you opt for non-dairy milk, you can always stay away from these worries.
- Most of the vegan milk alternatives can be made easily, quickly and economically at home and you can even add lots of flavor to it.

what kind of oats are needed? steel cut, rolled, old fashioned?
Sharon Adams says
I heard that farmers are adding an animal product to the growing process for almonds. Is that true?
Nava says
As far as I know, it's not true. I think the rumor was started by a silly April Fool's post on a credible blog.

Loving this website, you have so many great ideas and everything is so healthy which is awesome! I have only just converted to veganisn and am new to everything and thanks to you this has helped me so much! Keep up the great work 🙂
FRED says
There are almost no almonds in the leading brand of almond milk. Only 2% by weight. Try making almond milk with that proportion and you'll see it's basically water. They add gums so that it will seem like milk. Same goes for cashew milk, and probably most of the other milk alternatives. They're really gum milks, not nut milks.
Regina says
What kind of oats? And how long do the homemade milks keep in refrigerator?
Nava says
This is an interesting perspective, Fred, which is why a lot of people prefer to make their own nut milks. While commercial nut and soy milks do have additives, on the other hand, they're also enriched with extra nutrients. So it's a matter of preference (and convenience) but homemade is often best.

I'm curious about your comment about rice milk having perfect proportions of protein & carbs. As far as I'm aware it has no protein. Am I missing something?
Antarpuneet Singh says
Wow Great information but how can i get rice milk? is it available in india?
Roxanne says
For the oat milk, it is not vegan if there is honey in it, because of, you know, the bees and basically the whole world dying.
Nava says
Roxanne, you're right. Not sure how we let that slip through! The change has been made to agave or maples syrup, and it should show up on the site as corrected very soon. Thanks for the catch.

I've never eaten meat but as a vegetarian I did consume diary products. Growing up in the 30's and 40's my experience with diary cows came from visiting my grandfather's small farm in Wisconsin where the cows grazed freely in the field, with one bull and were hand milked. Once I learned the true nature of large, modern diaries I immediately became Vegan. Soy milk is delicious, tasting better than cow's milk and I really enjoy cashew yogurt. I regret the suffering I caused in my early years as even my grandfather's little farm caused harm.
